Influenza A H1 in poultry refers to a specific subtype of the influenza A virus that primarily affects birds, particularly domesticated poultry such as chickens and turkeys. The virus is highly contagious among birds and can cause significant economic losses in the poultry industry due to decreased egg production, increased mortality, and the cost of control measures. The H1 subtype of influenza A virus can also infect humans who come into contact with infected birds or their secretions, particularly individuals who work closely with poultry or who live in areas where close contact with birds is common. This type of infection is known as zoonotic avian influenza. Symptoms of influenza A H1 infection in poultry include respiratory signs such as coughing, sneezing, and nasal discharge, as well as decreased egg production and increased mortality. In severe cases, the virus can cause systemic disease and death in birds.
